About

This test is like a fitness test for your mouth designed to address and prevent harmful effects of opportunistic bacteria in your mouth associated with cavities, gum inflammation, and bad breath. Diving deep into the activity of your unique oral microbiome, Oral Health Intelligence reveals insights about what's going on in your mouth that could be leading to common symptoms such as bleeding or sensitive gums, cavities, tooth sensitivity, dry mouth, and bad breath. This underlying activity can be hard to detect, but our advanced RNA technology highlights key signals enabling a proactive, rather than reactive, approach toward oral health.*

Your Oral Health Scores identify which foods, prebiotics, probiotics, postbiotics, and other clinically tested ingredients will be most beneficial for your mouth and overall health.*

Restore healthy gums*

We track microbial activity in your mouth that lead to swelling, inflammation, and the breaking down of a protective gel-like substance in your gums.

Viome - Gum Health Screen - Desktop

We'll give you nutritional recommendations to help lower inflammation and strengthen your gums' protective barrier.*

Build tooth integrity*

This score assesses the balance of harmful and protective microbes in your mouth as well as the activity of microbes that contribute to cavity formation.

Viome - Dental Health Screen - Desktop

We’ll provide you with food and supplement recommendations designed to balance the oral microbiome, targeting plaque formation and oral pH which is necessary to keep everything in balance.*

Support a fresh breath*

Specific activities of microbial pathways can result in the production of volatile sulfides and polyamines, compounds that can worsen and prolong bad breath.

Oral Health Scores

Think of your Oral Health Scores as a report card for the health inside your mouth. By looking closely at the tiny organisms living there and understanding what they do, we can give you specific recommendations for personalized foods, supplements, and oral biotics.

This helps us either encourage the good things these organisms do or stop the bad things, keeping your mouth healthy and resilient.

The balance of oral microbes significantly impacts our dental health. While some bacteria contribute to plaque formation and tooth decay, others are actually protective. This score assesses the balance of microbes in the mouth and the activity of microbes that contribute to cavity formation.

[Icon] Gum Health | 24px | LeftGum Health

Within your mouth, certain harmful microbes can contribute to gum inflammation and poor gum health. This score assesses the activities of microbes in your mouth that contribute to inflammation and abnormal mucin degradation, a gel-like substance that aids in protecting the gums.

[Icon] Breath Odor | 24px | LeftBreath Odor

Occasionally, the foods we eat can cause temporary bad breath that fades, but some individuals experience bad breath long after they’ve eaten. This score assesses the activity of microbial pathways that produce volatile sulfides and polyamines, compounds that can worsen and prolong bad breath.

[Icon] Oral Pathogen Activity | 24px | LeftOral Pathogen Activity

Maintaining a healthy balance of microbes allows for a more optimal oral environment where activities that are damaging or promote disease are kept to a minimum. This score assesses the balance of microbes in your oral cavity, as well as signs of high pathogen activity, including flagellar production, which aids in the movement and colonization of opportunistic microbes, and the production of LPS, an inflammatory molecule produced by gram-negative pathogenic bacteria.

[Icon] Oral Inflammatory Pathways | 24px | LeftOral Inflammatory Pathways

Just as inflammation in the body is harmful to human health, acute or chronic inflammation of the gums can also have long-term health consequences. The Oral Inflammatory Pathways score assesses whether a mouth may contain periodontopathic bacteria (bacteria that cause gum inflammation) and if these bacteria are actively involved in gum inflammatory pathways. Inflammatory bacteria thrive in dental plaques and beneath the gums where they cooperatively form biofilms and produce signals that can trigger an inflammatory response. Chronic gum inflammation can cause loss of tooth enamel and dentin (the two outer layers of the teeth).

[Icon] Cavity Promoting Microbes | 24px | LeftCavity Promoting Microbes

Cavities are a leading contributor to tooth decay and can impact the health of your mouth. They’re considered one of the world’s most common health problems. The Cavity Promoting Pathways score is an assessment of microbial activities which contribute to dental cavities, as well as activities that protect against dental cavities. This score also takes a deeper dive into cavity biofilm formation and acid production that can contribute to cavity formation.

All About Oral Health

The microbial ecosystem of the mouth to be equally as important as the gut microbiome when it comes to systemic health. As many of the microbes found in our gut make their way down from our mouth, understanding how to boost and support the oral microbiome has become instrumental to improving overall human health and building resilience in your body over time.

Is bacteria in my mouth a good thing?

Yes, bacteria in the mouth are normal, and most bacteria benefit our health. But just like the gut, an imbalance of the oral microbiome can have negative effects on our health and not just on our teeth but our whole body.

Can I have poor oral health even without symptoms?

Sometimes we are not always in touch with the many signs and signals from our body. For example, signs like mental fatigue or issues in cognition and focus may be related to your oral health. Although you may have noticed times when you have difficulty concentrating, you may not have been able to connect the dots.

Fortunately, new scientific research has shown that many connections to our body relate directly to our oral microbiome and the health of our mouths. Even if you’re not noticing signs of dental cavities, gum inflammation, or other poor oral health - the implications may be far-reaching, like to your brain, heart, and even other organs like the liver and kidneys! Sometimes, the only way to know the state of your health and the source of various signals is to test and see what is happening inside you!

How can food and supplements help my oral microbiome?

Our diet is a major player in all components of our health, even the health of the microbes that live inside us. For example, certain foods we eat help support our gut ecosystem and boost its ability to promote balance inside our body. Likewise, many microbes in our mouths rely on what we eat to help balance and feed them. This is why choosing foods or supplements that help fill gaps in our oral environment can be a great way to boost healthy activities in the oral microbiome. However, these ingredients rely heavily on the state of your individual health and environment and may look very different from your neighbor!
